The ancestral tradition of growing grapes in our village of Kněždub began hundreds of years ago and flourished in the 17th century, when Kněždub was one of the largest wine-growing villages in the whole Strážnice estate. There were very fertile slopes at the foot of the White Carpathians, full of vineyards, called Kněždubská Hora. However, as time passed, only a few of these famous vineyards remained. Our family is continuing this almost forgotten tradition by trying to restore and plant vineyards on these famous slopes of the White Carpathians.

The Chromeček Winery itself was founded in 2017 by Ing. Radim Chromeček, at that time still a student of viticulture and viticulture at Mendel University. But of course the whole family is involved in the running of the winery. Currently, the winery farms approximately 2 hectares of its own vineyards and the annual production is about 15,000 bottles of wine.

The winery uses traditional practices combined with modern technology. The wines are produced in the so-called 'semi-natural' way, which involves minimising intervention in the wine itself, blending on fine yeast lees and, above all, minimising the sulphur dioxide content of the wines, while always maintaining perfect aromatic purity and flavour quality. The white wines are aged in stainless steel tanks, while some of them, and especially the red wines, are aged exclusively in oak barrels.

The terroir of Kněždub is remarkable. It is the foothills of the White Carpathians, which are characterised by alternating limestone, sandstone, siltstone and calcareous claystone. These soils are well heated, often stony and well drained. It is a warm area with characteristically long, warm and dry summers. The microclimate here is very much influenced by the so-called 'Fenn-type' winds blowing over the ridges of the White Carpathians, where they lose moisture and warm up. They bring warm and dry air to our village, which makes the microclimate drier and warmer.

The winery also boasts a traditional wine cellar with a capacity for up to 50 people. We offer guided wine tastings, corporate events, celebrations, or simply sitting with friends over a glass. On request, we can provide refreshments, either in the form of buffets or ready meals. Providing dulcimer music is also no problem. We can also arrange accommodation for you.

The vision of our winery is to restore our village to its almost forgotten glory in viticulture and to restore the fertile tracks that were once here, so that Kněždub can once again proudly call itself a wine-growing village.

It is our honour to represent the village of Kněždub with quality wines, produced with sensitivity, love and humility.
