The big gold medal was awarded to the Mikulov winery Volař&iacute;k for the Ořechov&aacute; hora Riesling, selection of grapes 2021, which was also the best rated wine from the Czech Republic. The second big golden prize belongs to B\V winery for Riesling, late harvest 2019. The winery from Rat&iacute;&scaron;kovice in South Moravia is also our most successful representative, adding 10 gold and 15 silver medals. Overall, Moravian wines shared 2 large gold, 18 gold and 22 silver medals.
"The Concours Mondial is one of the most prestigious wine competitions. The importance of the competition, in addition to the great competition in the number of entered wines from five continents, is underlined by the strict evaluation by the world's wine experts, who ensure not only the high standard but also the absolute objectivity of the competition. Every medal is extremely valuable and I am very happy that our winemakers and their wines have been so successful at these competitions for a long time. They have confirmed this by winning more than forty medals in Poreč," said Ing. Dagmar Fialov&aacute;, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre.

Since last year, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) has been divided into 4 parts (called sessions). The main part, dedicated to red and white wines, was held this year in Poreč, Croatia, from 12th to 14th May. Experienced wine experts from all over the world evaluated more than 7,500 white and red wines from almost 50 countries. A surprise participant was India, which won the first medal in its history. The next edition will be held from 7 to 9 June 2024 in Guanajuato, Mexico, and will be the first time the competition will visit the American continent. In March, the first section dedicated to ros&eacute; wines was already held, where our wines scored 1 Grand Gold, 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals. Sparkling wines will follow in June and this year will conclude with sweet and fortified wines.
CMB was first held in 1994. In the early years the judging took place in Brussels, but in 2006 the venue began to be travelling between different wine regions. It has taken place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Jesolo (Italy), Guimares (Portugal), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Bratislava (Slovakia), Aigl&eacute; (Switzerland) and others. In 2020, the competition will be hosted for the first time in Brno, Moravia. The Czech Republic has participated in the competition since its inception in 1994.

Forty medals for Moravian wines from the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

842 samples from 158 wineries from 6 countries took part in this year's 30th edition of the competition. The winners of the prestigious competition titles were decided by 19 tasting panels from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Great Britain, Australia and South Africa on 26 and 27 April in Valtice. The main prizes of the competition were awarded to the winners on 25 May at a gala evening held in the beautiful and unique premises of the Mendel Greenhouse. For the participants of the ceremony, among whom were tasters, winemakers and partners of the competition, but also representatives of the South Moravian Region or the City of Brno, a tasting of selected competition wines was prepared.
The wines of this year's competition once again proved their high quality - a large number of wines won medals, 51 of them even won a large gold medal (min. 90 points). The title of the champion of the competition and the winner of the category of white semi-dry wines went to Vinařstv&iacute; from Brno Volař&iacute;k from Mikulov for the Ryzlink r&yacute;nsk&yacute; 2021 in the category of selection of grapes from the Purmice in Perná. Ondřej Tich&yacute;, the winery's oenologist, added: "This is a wine from our top range, in which we try to reflect the terroir of the Mikulov region in the bottles. Purmice is one of our most prestigious lines. The wine is very fruity, the taste is dominated by apricot with a beautiful mineral finish. "In addition to a glass sculpture and a diploma, the producer of the champion took away a helper to the winery - a high-pressure cleaner donated to the competition by K&auml;rcher.

 The Best Collection award went to Pavlov Winery
</blockquote>
The Best Collection award and a voucher for a Haier wine cellar went to Pavlov Winery for seven samples with an average score of 88.76 points. Another of the main prizes of the competition, the Award of the Union of Winegrowers of the Czech Republic, was won by Riesling 2021 selection from onions from the same winery. The title of Category Winner was awarded in seven of the eleven competition categories and can be enjoyed by V&yacute; Winerymola from Mikulčice, Laurent &Scaron;atov Winery, GAZAŇ WINERY from Čejč, Pavlov Winery, &Scaron;al&scaron;a V&aacute;clav Winery from Kyjov and CHATEAU BZENEC. The National Winner awards went to V&yacute;mola Winery from Mikulčice, Golguz Winery from Slovakia, andHlohovec, Weingut Girsch from Hauskirchen, Austria and HedoNick Winery from Pilisv&ouml;rr&ouml;sv&aacute;r, Hungary. The champion, the top-rated collection and the category winners were awarded prestigious prizes in the form of a glasssculptures designed by Jiř&iacute; Matela, a pupil of the world-famous designer Bořek &Scaron;&iacute;pek.

The most represented varieties among the white wines were our domestic P&aacute;lava (75) and Riesling (74), and among the red wines Pinot Noir (42). The largest number of wines was achieved by the vintages 2022 (406), 2021 (289). However, wines of older vintages were also entered.

GRAND PRIX VINEX is a traditional international wine competition organized by the National Wine Centre in cooperation with the Brno Trade Fairs and the Association of Winemakers of the Czech Republic. The competition is organized with the support of the Wine Fund. The aim of the competition is to evaluate and award the best domestic and international wines represented on the Central European market at a high professional level every year. The patronage over the 30th year of the international wine competition GRAND PRIX VINEX was taken over by the Minister of Agriculture Ing. Main prizes of the jubilee edition of GRAND PRIX VINEX presented in the Mendel Greenhouse in Brno

The champion, i.e. the best wine of the competition, was declared P&aacute;lava straw wine 2021 from R&eacute;va Rakvice winery. Interestingly, the same wine, but of the 2020 vintage, took second place in last year's competition. The winery also added one more silver medal for the Hibernal straw wine 2021.
"We are happy that our honest work and our efforts to constantly improve and move forward have been recognised at an international competition like Cool Climate. We are very pleased with the award. But we were even more pleased that the best wine of the show was P&aacute;lava Straw Wine 2021. In the production, we placed great emphasis on quality and selection of raw materials and gentle processing. Judging by the results, it seems to have paid off," said Marek Grbavčic, the Operations Director of R&eacute;va Rakvice Winery.

The second place went to the Pinot Noir Selection 2018 from the Vinselekt Michlovsk&yacute; winery, which with 6 medals (4 gold and 2 silver) became our most successful representative at the competition. Out of a total of 29 medals for our wine, 9 were gold and 20 silver.
The Cool Climate Wine Awards (CCWA) competition was founded and organized by "Czas Wina", the largest Polish wine magazine and is held annually in Krakow. It is intended for all types of wines (i.e. still and sparkling, dry and sweet), from all wine regions around the world, which fall into the category of "cool climate" wines. An international jury of the world's renowned wine experts (this year from nine countries), including the Masters of Wine, will issuegives an independent and unbiased verdict on these wines, ensuring that the competition is fair and professional.

Moravian wines again dominated the international wine competition in Poland!

Czech and Moravian wine producers and foreign-wine importers entered into this year&rsquo;s edition a total of 136 wines in six competition categories: 32 dry white wines (category A1), 28 semi-dry and semi-sweet white wines (A2), 45 red wines (B), 10 ros&eacute; wines (C), 16 sparkling wines (D) and 5 sweet and liqueur wines (E). A total of eight countries sent their samples to this competition: Czech Republic (106 wines), Slovakia (10), France (6), Bulgaria (4), Denmark (4), Austria (2), Spain (2) and South Africa (2). Wines which fulfilled the conditions of the competition statutes were assessed in the tasting room of National Wine Centre in Valtice on 17th April using the 100-point evaluation system under the patronage of the National Wine Centre. A hundred-point system was used in accordance with the criteria as defined by the National Standards for Certifying wine competitions of the Czech Republic. Wines receiving 90 points or over were in receipt of a double gold medal, wines achieving between 87 and 89.99 points were awarded a gold medal, wines achieving between 84 and 86.99 points were awarded a silver medal. It was decided by the organizers not to award any bronze medals.
A trio of specialised committees under the direction of Fedor Mal&iacute;k, Josef Bal&iacute;k and Martin Proke&scaron; awarded 7 double gold medals, 21 gold and 71 silver medals. Local Moravian wines were honoured with 5 double gold, 14 gold and 53 silver medals. Most successful among the foreign participants were wines emanating from Slovakia (2 gold, 5 silver), France (3 gold, 3 silver), Bulgaria (2 gold, 2 silver), followed by Denmark (4 silver), Spain (1 double gold, 1 silver), South Africa (1 double gold, 1 silver) and Austria (2 silver).
The title of Champion in the category of dry white wines was awarded to coupage of Sauvignon and S&eacute;millon Coastal Creative Block 2020 (Spier Wines, South Africa; imported by Zebra Wines). The title of National Winner for the best-rated dry white wine of local provenance went to assemblage of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot blanc Star&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec). The red-wine champion was Cuv&eacute;e Str&aacute;žnice 2021 (Žerot&iacute;n, Czech Republic) made from Cabernet Cortis, Merlot and Lemberger. The winner in the category of semi-dry and semi-sweet white wines was cuv&eacute;e Aubere Rezerva 2015 (Vinařstv&iacute; Dvoř&aacute;ček LTM, Czech Republic) produced from the Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot gris. Sweet and liquer wines category was dominated by cuv&eacute;e of Gr&uuml;ner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Sauvignon and Moravian Muscat Bobulky 70 2017 straw-wine (Oldřich Dr&aacute;pal, Czech Republic). The victor in the Ros&eacute; and/or Blanc de Noirs category was coupage of Grolleau gris, Grolleau noir and Cabernet franc Ros&eacute; de Loire 2022 (Domaine de la Haute Coudraie, France; imported by Winaři store). The winner in the sparkling-wine category was Cava Jan Vidal Honor Reserva Brut 2021 (Jan Vidal, Spain; imported by Winaři store), assemblage of Xarello, Macabeo and Parellada. The award for the Best Collection of Wines was defended in the closest battle in the history of the competition (Trakia Wine fell behind by a hundredth of a point) by domestic producer Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec.
Champion titles were also handed out in the frame of Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Exhibition at Castle Z&aacute;břeh Hotel on 4th May by the Committee of the Lay Public. These results permit wine producers and importers to compare the opinions of the specialists with those of wine aficionados. With the Jaroslav Kozel Award, in the shape of an original work by glassmaker Ricardo Hoineff, the organisers are paying tribute to the late wine lover from South Moravia without whom the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Competition would never even have seen the light of day. The Champions as chosen by the lay public were Kl&iacute;ň&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec, Czech Republic) made of Pinot blanc and Chardonnay, as well as French blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Malbec Bordeaux Ch&acirc;teau Marjosse 2018 (Ch&acirc;teau Marjosse, France; imported by L9). National winner in the red wines category was Manuscript Merlot / Pinot noir 2018 (Vinařstv&iacute; Baloun, Czech Republic). The winners in the individual categories were assamblage of Gr&uuml;ner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Sauvignon and Moravian Muscat Bobulky 69 2016 straw-wine (Oldřich Dr&aacute;pal, Czech Republic), then Sekt Mikrosv&iacute;n Brut 2019 (Vinařstv&iacute; Mikrosv&iacute;n Mikulov, Czech Republic), coupage of Welschriesling, Pinot blanc and Riesling, and in accordance with specialised jury Ros&eacute; de Loire 2022 (Domaine de la Haute Coudraie, France; imported by Winaři store). In view of the huge number of entries with a higher residual sugar content in the submissions by local wine producers, the Ostrava wine aficianodes have arrived at the conclusion not to judge the categories of off-dry and semi-sweet wines. The award for the Best Collection of Wines according to the lay public went to the importer Trakia Wine. Kl&iacute;ň&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec, Czech Republic) was then honored by the Jaroslav Kozel Award.
The results from this &ndash; the one and only international wine competition taking place in Northern Moravia &ndash; were made public on the same day at the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Exhibition in Z&aacute;břeh Castle. Professor Fedor Mal&iacute;k inaugurated the accompanying programme with his traditional tutored tasting of "Slovak wines at 5 o&lsquo;clock". Thereafter the wine exhibition will be freely accessible to the general public to the plangent sounds of Moravian dulcimer music, while visitors could sample not only the wines from the competition, but also varietal wines from those Moravian winemakers and importers of foreign wines who were present. The accompanying programme culminated with a presentation by Tom&aacute;&scaron; Dominec titled "Wines of France Vol. 6."
The presumptuous aim of the organisers of the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava competition is to witness a renaissance of the good name of blends or brands and their return to the forefront of the products on offer from Czech and Moravian winemakers, as is customary in other major wine-producing countries. In the words of the spiritual father of the competition Professor Vil&eacute;m Kraus: "There's no Cuv&eacute;e like a Cuv&eacute;e" meaning that each and every blend is different.

The award for the best enologist went to Jiř&iacute; Toman, chief enologist and cellar master of B\V Vinařstv&iacute; z Milotic u Kyjov, for the bestbest collection and also the best rated wine of the Czech Republic Veltl&iacute;nsk&eacute; zelen&eacute; 2021, late harvest. He repeated the same success he had already achieved in 2021.

"It's a great feeling and I appreciate the award immensely. Just being in the company of enologists from all over the world and being able to compare myself with them is a great opportunity for me. I already won the award for best oenologist in the white dry category in 2021 and, just like then, this is a huge surprise for me. I also see it as an award for our entire winery and all my colleagues," said Jiř&iacute; Toman. The winery's wines were also awarded 4 large gold, 12 gold and 3 silver medals. The B\V winery has been successful at the international level for a long time. Recently, it also won the title for the best dry white wine at the Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg competition.
Moravian wines can boast 5 major gold, 24 gold and 5 silver medals. Davinus also scored a major gold medal along with one gold and one silver. Lahofer Winery, Gazaň Winery, Miroslav Volař&iacute;k and Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec have two gold medals each.

<h3>Myth No. 1: Ros&eacute; wine is the "invention" of the last decades</h3>
No, rosé wine has a long history, although it is true that it has only recently acquired this designation. In Moravia, they used to be called, for example, "pink wine". "In the Czech Republic, it was called 'ros&eacute;' or 'Lab&iacute;n', a term still used for Pinot Noir ros&eacute;. However, the first references date back to around the 4th century BC, when the famous Hippocrates encouraged his patients to drink the light red delicious drink. However, ros&eacute; wines enjoyed a major boom in the Middle Ages, especially in France, where Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris were planted together and their joint processing produced wines of a lighter shade.
<h3>Myth 2: There is no long tradition of ros&eacute; wine production in the Czech Republic</h3>
On the contrary, rose-tinged wines have been produced in the Czech Republic since the 16th century. Small winegrowers with mixed plantings had to press their crushed grapes on municipal presses or with 'large-scale winemakers'. This prolonged the winemaking process, and waiting for a free press meant that the resulting must was pinkish in colour.
Today, Moravian ros&eacute; in particular is among the world's top wines, as evidenced by its many successes at internationalinternational wine competitions, where they regularly win medals and even the highest awards. Last year, for example. The wine &pi;not noir 3.14 Pinot Noir Blue Ros&eacute;, late harvest 2017 from the winery Znov&iacute;n Znojmo, became theChampion of the semi-dry ros&eacute; wine category at one of the most prestigious wine competitions, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
<h3>Myth No. 3: Ros&eacute; is a blend of red and white wine</h3>
This myth sounds logical but is far from reality. It is definitely not a mix of red and white. The practice is even forbidden by law. Although ros&eacute; wine can also be made by using white and blue grapes together before fermentation, the most commonThe most common practice is the very short time (3-24 hours) that the crushed blue grapes are in contact with the skins before pressing. It is the grapes that contain the red dye that gives the wine its colour. The longer the grapes are skins together, the darker the wine and the richer the colour. On the other hand, immediately pressed blue grapes give a virtually clear must and such wine is then called claret.
<h3>Myth 4: Neither the cat nor the dog - rosé wines are not as good as white or red wines</h3>
Ros&eacute;s can be of superior quality and complexity just like white and red wines. The key to quality is the variety, the quality of the grapes, the production process and the skill of the winemaker. It is also not uncommon for some ros&eacute;s to have archival potential and improve with age.
<h3>Myth 5: Ros&eacute; wines are weaker and have less alcohol than both red and white wines</h3>
How did you come up with this? Perhaps the colour pink evokes lightness and freshness, hence the lower alcohol percentage. Anyway, don't rely on this and study the label when choosing, as you may also come across wines that have up to 14% alcohol.
<h3>Myth 6: Pink wines are such sweet "pussies"</h3>
There's also a wide range of ros&eacute; wines to choose from, both drier ones with predominant acidity and sweet ones. It depends on the intention of the winemaker. Try a few good dry rosé wines and you will probably change your mind.
<h3>Myth No. 7: You can't really pair ros&eacute; wine with food </h3>
Try a ros&eacute; wine with grilled fish, Asian-style meats, sausage, dessert... Not bad, right? Because ros&eacute; wines are great to pair and have versatile uses. Dry ros&eacute;s can handle vegetable salads, for example. With goat's cheese and cranberries, grilled sausages and cold quality cured meats, fatty salmon in many ways or pork tenderloin, and even light adaptations of lamb. They are also excellent with prawns or with various curries. Semi-dry and sweeter rosé wines can then be paired with fruit salads or refreshing sorbets.
<h3>Myth 8: The quality of ros&eacute; is also indicated by its shade</h3>
Definitely not. The strength of the colour is definitely not an indicator of the quality of the wine. The intensity of the ros&eacute; depends on the variety, and especially the length of maceration (technological process). Today, modern ros&eacute;s are of very low colour intensity, but you can also find wines of light red colour on the market.
<h3>Myth No 9: Ros&eacute; is not very popular and its consumption is low</h3>
The opposite is true. Pink wine is increasingly popular with consumers. Around 20 million hectolitres are produced worldwide each year, and an average of over 600 000 hectolitres is produced here, i.e. around 10% of total production. France is the world's largest producer, accounting for up to 30% of production. France is not far behind other wine-growing regions - Spain and Italy - where ros&eacute; sparkling wines are very popular. But what can we say, Moravia is Moravia.

Moravian wines did not shine in Strasbourg for the first time this year. It also won the highest award among dry wines in 2022 and 2020, and thus once again made its presence known not only in the organizing France, but throughout Europe.

The award for the best Sylvanian Green for the winery CH&Acirc;TEAU VALTICE - Vinn&eacute; sklepy Valtice then illustrated the overall outstandingMoravian and Czech wines, which won a total of 6 large gold, 26 gold and 4 silver medals.
"The 2018 RESERVA Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in our 45-year-old vineyards in Rat&iacute;&scaron;kovice. It has a yellowish colour, with a delicate fruity aroma of yellow peaches, accompanied by tropical notes. The palate is full, harmonious, with fresh acidity, long and complex, as the wine was trained for 12 months on fine yeast lees in a large French oak barrel. It is an elegant big wine suitable for bottle ageing," said Jiř&iacute; Toman, oenologist and cellar master of B\V winery, introducing the best dry wine of the competition.

The special award, given especially for the 25th anniversary of the winery's winery. P&aacute;lava Maidenburg 2022 from the Reisten winery in Pavlov. This year, Tereza Helmov&aacute;, Pavel Kr&scaron;ka, Miroslav Majer and Josef Valihrach, both older and younger, sat on the jury for the Czech Republic.
Our winemakers have been very successful at this competition for a long time. Last year the same award, i.e. the best dry wine of the competition, belonged to the Tram&iacute;n Red Late Harvest 2020 from the Davinus winery. B\V winery enjoyed the feeling of victory with a year older Chardonnay from the same series already in 2020. In addition, as this year, there were also wins in the individual varieties.
Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg is the only international wine competition specialising in white wines in the world organised under the patronage ofOIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and part of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions).
