Jiří Toman, enologist of B\V Vinařství

The award for the best enologist went to Jiř&iacute; Toman, chief enologist and cellar master of B\V Vinařstv&iacute; z Milotic u Kyjov, for the bestbest collection and also the best rated wine of the Czech Republic Veltl&iacute;nsk&eacute; zelen&eacute; 2021, late harvest. He repeated the same success he had already achieved in 2021.

"It's a great feeling and I appreciate the award immensely. Just being in the company of enologists from all over the world and being able to compare myself with them is a great opportunity for me. I already won the award for best oenologist in the white dry category in 2021 and, just like then, this is a huge surprise for me. I also see it as an award for our entire winery and all my colleagues," said Jiř&iacute; Toman. The winery's wines were also awarded 4 large gold, 12 gold and 3 silver medals. The B\V winery has been successful at the international level for a long time. Recently, it also won the title for the best dry white wine at the Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg competition.
Moravian wines can boast 5 major gold, 24 gold and 5 silver medals. Davinus also scored a major gold medal along with one gold and one silver. Lahofer Winery, Gazaň Winery, Miroslav Volař&iacute;k and Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec have two gold medals each.
"The quality of the competition wines is growing year by year, not only in Madrid, but at all competitions under the VINOFED banner. I have been following this for several years in a row as one of the jury presidents in the Bacchus evaluation. Each medal is now worth more again. In the company of nearly a hundred judges from all over the world, including six Master of Wine winners and several merchants and sommeliers from the "This great success is a great advertisement for the Czech Republic," summarized Miroslav Majer, judge and director of DAVINUS.
Bacchus Madrid is traditionally organised by the Union of Spanish Tasters and is currently the only internationalinternational wine competition in Spain, which is part of VINOFED (World Federation of ImportantInternational Federation of International Wine and Spirits Competitions) and supported by the International Organisation for Wine and Spirits.OIV and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (MAGRAMA). The competition is characterised in particular by the participation of a large number of experts, who are united by their high level of professionalism and years of experience in various sectors of the industry.

The best oenologist and 34 medals for our wines from Madrid!

Czech and Moravian wine producers and foreign-wine importers entered into this year&rsquo;s edition a total of 136 wines in six competition categories: 32 dry white wines (category A1), 28 semi-dry and semi-sweet white wines (A2), 45 red wines (B), 10 ros&eacute; wines (C), 16 sparkling wines (D) and 5 sweet and liqueur wines (E). A total of eight countries sent their samples to this competition: Czech Republic (106 wines), Slovakia (10), France (6), Bulgaria (4), Denmark (4), Austria (2), Spain (2) and South Africa (2). Wines which fulfilled the conditions of the competition statutes were assessed in the tasting room of National Wine Centre in Valtice on 17th April using the 100-point evaluation system under the patronage of the National Wine Centre. A hundred-point system was used in accordance with the criteria as defined by the National Standards for Certifying wine competitions of the Czech Republic. Wines receiving 90 points or over were in receipt of a double gold medal, wines achieving between 87 and 89.99 points were awarded a gold medal, wines achieving between 84 and 86.99 points were awarded a silver medal. It was decided by the organizers not to award any bronze medals.
A trio of specialised committees under the direction of Fedor Mal&iacute;k, Josef Bal&iacute;k and Martin Proke&scaron; awarded 7 double gold medals, 21 gold and 71 silver medals. Local Moravian wines were honoured with 5 double gold, 14 gold and 53 silver medals. Most successful among the foreign participants were wines emanating from Slovakia (2 gold, 5 silver), France (3 gold, 3 silver), Bulgaria (2 gold, 2 silver), followed by Denmark (4 silver), Spain (1 double gold, 1 silver), South Africa (1 double gold, 1 silver) and Austria (2 silver).
The title of Champion in the category of dry white wines was awarded to coupage of Sauvignon and S&eacute;millon Coastal Creative Block 2020 (Spier Wines, South Africa; imported by Zebra Wines). The title of National Winner for the best-rated dry white wine of local provenance went to assemblage of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot blanc Star&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec). The red-wine champion was Cuv&eacute;e Str&aacute;žnice 2021 (Žerot&iacute;n, Czech Republic) made from Cabernet Cortis, Merlot and Lemberger. The winner in the category of semi-dry and semi-sweet white wines was cuv&eacute;e Aubere Rezerva 2015 (Vinařstv&iacute; Dvoř&aacute;ček LTM, Czech Republic) produced from the Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot gris. Sweet and liquer wines category was dominated by cuv&eacute;e of Gr&uuml;ner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Sauvignon and Moravian Muscat Bobulky 70 2017 straw-wine (Oldřich Dr&aacute;pal, Czech Republic). The victor in the Ros&eacute; and/or Blanc de Noirs category was coupage of Grolleau gris, Grolleau noir and Cabernet franc Ros&eacute; de Loire 2022 (Domaine de la Haute Coudraie, France; imported by Winaři store). The winner in the sparkling-wine category was Cava Jan Vidal Honor Reserva Brut 2021 (Jan Vidal, Spain; imported by Winaři store), assemblage of Xarello, Macabeo and Parellada. The award for the Best Collection of Wines was defended in the closest battle in the history of the competition (Trakia Wine fell behind by a hundredth of a point) by domestic producer Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec.
Champion titles were also handed out in the frame of Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Exhibition at Castle Z&aacute;břeh Hotel on 4th May by the Committee of the Lay Public. These results permit wine producers and importers to compare the opinions of the specialists with those of wine aficionados. With the Jaroslav Kozel Award, in the shape of an original work by glassmaker Ricardo Hoineff, the organisers are paying tribute to the late wine lover from South Moravia without whom the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Competition would never even have seen the light of day. The Champions as chosen by the lay public were Kl&iacute;ň&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec, Czech Republic) made of Pinot blanc and Chardonnay, as well as French blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Malbec Bordeaux Ch&acirc;teau Marjosse 2018 (Ch&acirc;teau Marjosse, France; imported by L9). National winner in the red wines category was Manuscript Merlot / Pinot noir 2018 (Vinařstv&iacute; Baloun, Czech Republic). The winners in the individual categories were assamblage of Gr&uuml;ner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Sauvignon and Moravian Muscat Bobulky 69 2016 straw-wine (Oldřich Dr&aacute;pal, Czech Republic), then Sekt Mikrosv&iacute;n Brut 2019 (Vinařstv&iacute; Mikrosv&iacute;n Mikulov, Czech Republic), coupage of Welschriesling, Pinot blanc and Riesling, and in accordance with specialised jury Ros&eacute; de Loire 2022 (Domaine de la Haute Coudraie, France; imported by Winaři store). In view of the huge number of entries with a higher residual sugar content in the submissions by local wine producers, the Ostrava wine aficianodes have arrived at the conclusion not to judge the categories of off-dry and semi-sweet wines. The award for the Best Collection of Wines according to the lay public went to the importer Trakia Wine. Kl&iacute;ň&aacute;k 2021 (Z&aacute;meck&eacute; vinařstv&iacute; Bzenec, Czech Republic) was then honored by the Jaroslav Kozel Award.
The results from this &ndash; the one and only international wine competition taking place in Northern Moravia &ndash; were made public on the same day at the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava Wine Exhibition in Z&aacute;břeh Castle. Professor Fedor Mal&iacute;k inaugurated the accompanying programme with his traditional tutored tasting of "Slovak wines at 5 o&lsquo;clock". Thereafter the wine exhibition will be freely accessible to the general public to the plangent sounds of Moravian dulcimer music, while visitors could sample not only the wines from the competition, but also varietal wines from those Moravian winemakers and importers of foreign wines who were present. The accompanying programme culminated with a presentation by Tom&aacute;&scaron; Dominec titled "Wines of France Vol. 6."
The presumptuous aim of the organisers of the Cuv&eacute;e Ostrava competition is to witness a renaissance of the good name of blends or brands and their return to the forefront of the products on offer from Czech and Moravian winemakers, as is customary in other major wine-producing countries. In the words of the spiritual father of the competition Professor Vil&eacute;m Kraus: "There's no Cuv&eacute;e like a Cuv&eacute;e" meaning that each and every blend is different.

Chardonnay RESERVA 2018 B\V winery

Moravian wines did not shine in Strasbourg for the first time this year. It also won the highest award among dry wines in 2022 and 2020, and thus once again made its presence known not only in the organizing France, but throughout Europe.

With the VINOFED award for the best dry wine of the competition, i.e. across all varieties, the B&amp;V winery also won the title for the best Chardonnay of the competition and a large gold medal. In addition, the same winery also added the best Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon. The award for the best Sylvanian Green for the winery CH&Acirc;TEAU VALTICE - Vinn&eacute; sklepy Valtice then illustrated the overall outstandingMoravian and Czech wines, which won a total of 6 large gold, 26 gold and 4 silver medals.
"The 2018 RESERVA Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in our 45-year-old vineyards in Rat&iacute;&scaron;kovice. It has a yellowish colour, with a delicate fruity aroma of yellow peaches, accompanied by tropical notes. The palate is full, harmonious, with fresh acidity, long and complex, as the wine was trained for 12 months on fine yeast lees in a large French oak barrel. It is an elegant big wine suitable for bottle ageing," said Jiř&iacute; Toman, oenologist and cellar master of B\V winery, introducing the best dry wine of the competition.

The special award, given especially for the 25th anniversary of the winery's winery. P&aacute;lava Maidenburg 2022 from the Reisten winery in Pavlov. This year, Tereza Helmov&aacute;, Pavel Kr&scaron;ka, Miroslav Majer and Josef Valihrach, both older and younger, sat on the jury for the Czech Republic.
Our winemakers have been very successful at this competition for a long time. Last year the same award, i.e. the best dry wine of the competition, belonged to the Tram&iacute;n Red Late Harvest 2020 from the Davinus winery. B\V winery enjoyed the feeling of victory with a year older Chardonnay from the same series already in 2020. In addition, as this year, there were also wins in the individual varieties.
Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg is the only international wine competition specialising in white wines in the world organised under the patronage ofOIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and part of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions). More than 600 wines from winemakers from around 20 countries regularly take part, judged by internationally renowned experts from five continents.

The best dry wine of the Strasbourg competition was the Moravian Chardonnay!

A total of 842 wines from 6 countries took part in this year's jubilee edition of the international wine competition Grand Prix Vinex. Traditionally, the most represented wines were from the Czech Republic (749 wines), followed by Slovakia (33 wines), Austria (32 wines), Hungary (21 wines), Germany (5 wines) and Italy (2 wines).

The absolute champion of the competition was the winery Volař&iacute;k from Mikulov with its Riesling 2021, from the Terroir series from the Purmice vineyard in Perná.
Miroslav Volař&iacute;k, owner: "We are very happy. It is the result of the perfect work of the whole team and the handwriting of oenologist Ondřej Tich&yacute;. This is an exceptional wine that has won awards at other competitions. We appreciate it all the more because the overall quality of Moravian and Czech wines is constantly growing and the competition is dynamically increasing. It is also a great commitment for the future."
Ondřej Tich&yacute;, oenologist of the winery.I've only been an oenologist for a year and this month is already the 3rd champion! It is all the more pleasing that this is a wine from our top line, where we try to project Mikulovsko into the bottles. This is a beautiful result for the whole Volař&iacute;k Winery team! Thank you for it! :-) Purmice is one of our most prestigious lines, where we grow Riesling and Riesling. For this particular wine, we ran a longer maceration of the grapes (48 hours) and after fermentation we gave the wine more time to lie on the yeast. The wine is distinctly fruity, the flavours are dominated by apricot, with a lovely mineral finish. The grapes for this wine were partially botrytised, which is why the wine has a very high extract, around 29 g/l."

In addition to the champion, category winners, national winners and the best wine collection were selected.
The wines are evaluated annually by an expert committee consisting of both Czech and foreign tasters. This year, tasters from Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Slovakia accepted the invitation and the points were awarded toThe judges awarded the winners via a special electronic system called ELWIS, developed by the National Wine Centre.

On the occasion of the 30th year of the competition, instead of the traditional public tasting at the exhibition centre, we will gather together with tasters, winemakers and partners of the competition at a gala evening with the award ceremony. The event will take place on 25 May 2023 at the Mendel Greenhouse in Brno. Grand Prix Vinex is a traditional international wine competition organized by the National Wine Centre, o.p.s. The aim of the competition is to award domestic and international wines represented on the Central European market at a high level every year.

In addition to the wonderful wines, you can enjoy a pleasant atmosphere and breathtaking views of the whole of Prague. The event is designed not only for wine lovers, but for everyone who decided to spend the festive day in style in the company of fresh and playful rosé wines from Moravian and Czech vineyards. There will be no shortage of ros&eacute; sparkling wines and this year also new wine spritzers. Visitors will pay the winemakers for the wine samples using charging chips they will receive at the entrance.

Entrance fee 400 CZK on the spot and 350 CZK in advance sale includes: entrance, tasting glass, rechargeable chip pre-charged for 5 samples worth 100 CZK and information brochure. The virtual tasting coin is worth 20 CZK and visitors will receive 1 sample of wine of 0.5 dl. It will also be possible to buy whole bottles from the winemakers present. There will also be refreshments on site.

May Day again in the sign of rosé wines

The organizing committee has prepared a truly varied palette of snippets of the history of the Czech nation, great musical performances, gastronomy, wines and charity. The opening of the festival took place in the castle caf&eacute; in the spirit of welcome drink frizzante Vajbar Winery and canap&eacute;s.
A grandiose procession of more than 100 people led by historical knights and musicians marched through the streets of Měln&iacute;k to the Church of St. Peter and Paul. The organ concert of Prof. Michal Novenko - "Around the wine world" - was the opening song. The highlight of the celebration was the handing over of the sword - a personal gift of the first proconsul of the Eques OKT, Petr Marcinč&aacute;k, to the newly formed Legatus Bohemia.
After the tour of the chateau, Jiř&iacute; Jan Lobkowicz personally welcomed the guests in the concert hall and invited them to a musical performance by the Cello Republic Cello Quartet, which played well-known melodies from various periods - from the Sabre Dance, through Monti's Chardonnay to Bohemian Rhapsody. This was followed by a wine tasting in the 14th century cellars of Chateau Měln&iacute;k.

The wine knights and their guests spent the whole evening in the chateau restaurant and on the terraces above the river. A rich buffet was prepared, which was complemented by a large presentation of wines from Czech winemakers. Importers of wines from Portugal, Chile and Spain also made guest appearances. Guests were also delighted with mixed drinks from Alkohol.cz and craft beer from the Něm&yacute; medvěd brewery in Měln&iacute;k.
The highlight of the evening was the charity raffle, the proceeds of which over 60 thousand crowns were donated to a disabled boy, four-year-old Patrick from Měln&iacute;k, who was taken over by his mother and will be used for much-needed occupational therapy.
And what did the main person of the evening Branko Čern&yacute; have to say? "Thank you very much to everyone who bought raffle tickets and contributed to Patrick and to the donors of the prizes. And even more thanks to everyone who helped with the organization of such a demanding event. The biggest thanks go to Ctirad Mike&scaron;, Ludv&iacute;k &Scaron;ald, Tom&aacute;&scaron; Matějovsk&yacute; and the Weitosch family. And even if some things went a bit wrong, we hope to see you again next year".

First Knights' Festival in Mělník

In addition to the national champions 56. Zweigeltrebe/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 barrique from the Austrian winery Neustifter was also awarded as the champion of foreign wines. This year, 721 wines from 110 winemakers and wineries were entered into this oldest wine competition with international participation in the Czech Republic.wine companies from the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia, but also from Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Chile, Australia, Argentina and South Africa.

Compared to most competitions in this country, it is unique in that the wines judged can be tasted by the general public and all wine lovers. Moreover, in the beautiful representative premises of the Valtice Chateau, with perfect technical facilities.with excellent technical facilities for several thousand visitors, a great accompanying programme and a wonderful friendly atmosphere. This real wine festival also has its charitable side. There will be an auction of archive champions and the proceeds will go to the children's cardiac centre in Prague. This is to emphasize that winemakers and wine lovers are true heartthrobs and also that wine has been part of our culture and healthy lifestyle for centuries and we won't let anyone take that away from us. Wines marked with medals are also a guarantee of quality and a clear recommendation for tasting," said David &Scaron;t'astn&yacute;, one of the organisers of the Valtice Wine Market, adding: "I would therefore like to invite all wine lovers to this unique presentation wine tasting, which will take place at the beginning of May, because there is once again something to look forward to."

The wine exhibition, where the public will be able to taste all the wines from the competition, including the champions, will take place this year from 5 to 6. May, traditionally in the renovated riding hall and the Spanish Stables of the State Chateau in Valtice, which give it an unforgettable backdrop and appropriate atmosphere. This wine festival regularly attracts almost 6 000 visitors who taste the finest wines from all over the Czech Republic and abroad.
The Valtice Wine Market is held annually as one of the most prestigious exhibitions in the country and in Europe under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture Ing. Zdeněk Nekula, the South Moravian Region, the Senate of the Czech Republic, the towns of Valtice and Břeclav and with the support of the Wine Fund, SZIF and other important partners.
