A record year for Moravian and Czech wines at world competitions!

Moravian and Czech winemakers will certainly remember the year 2022 for a long time. At international wine competitions abroad, they have won an incredible 1,292 medals for their wines, and have thus ensured a significant increase inIn addition, they also won several top awards - the titles of champions, i.e. the best wines of the competition. Thus, domestic wines were once again much heard of and their high quality and ever-increasing popularity beyond the borders of the country were confirmed. Participation in the competitions has long been supported by the Wine Fund.

The awards included not only gold (501), silver (562) and bronze (166) medals, but also an incredible 44 major gold and 8 platinum medals. The medal haul was then crowned by 11 champion titles, i.e. awards for wines of exceptional quality that either overall or in their categories found no competitors at the competitions.

"Our winemakers surpassed the magic mark of 1,000 medals for the first time in 2020. Last year, they shone even more brightly in the world. The level of our winemaking is constantly rising, so it is certainly not just a coincidence, but an objective assessment of what can behigher quality of Moravian and Czech wines and hopefully a new standard," commented Ing. Jaroslav Machovec, Director of the Wine Fund, and added: "these success stories are not only information for customers in the Czech Republic, but also a clear It is a clear message to the Czech Republic, where more and more of our winemakers are successfully exporting their wines. The spread of our winery's and the country's reputation around the world is far from over with these competitions."

The world's most prestigious competitions are organised under the auspices of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wineor under the umbrella of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirit Competitions). The juries are made up of the world's leading tasters, representatives of the UIOE (International Union of Oenologists) and other eminent and respected experts in the field. In particular, the Wine Fund has long contributed to participation in these most prestigious international competitions, as well as many others. In addition to the entry fee, it also covers the cost of transporting competition samples around the world. The participation of Moravian and Czech wines is then organised by the National Wine Centre, and some of the competitions are also organised by the Winesupporter.com initiative (formerly the editorial office of SOMMELIER magazine).

The biggest successes of 2022:

Champions. The Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, the Danube Wine Challenge, Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (part dedicated to rosé wines) each brought one. The absolute champion of the competition was Moravian wines at the Cool Climate Wine Awards, Chardonnay du Monde, TERRAVINO.

Large gold medals: Our winemakers won the most major gold medals, 12 of them, at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards in South Africa.

Platinum medals: A total of 8 platinum medals were awarded to Moravian and Czech wines at the popular GREAT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION, traditionally held in New York. The medals were earned by the wineries Čech, Ludwig, Somnium, Zapletal, Vladimír Tetur, Vinné sklepy Skalák and twice by Kosík winery from the Moravian town of Tvrdonice.

Most medals. They took home a staggering 322 medals. Including the "Seal of Approval", our winemakers thus won an impressive 388 awards. They also achieved the highest number of gold medals at this competition with 72.

Our wines dominated three categories in the overall results of The Golden League series of wine competitions. The winner in the category of up to 30 hectares was Leona Šebestová's Vinné Sklepy Skalák from Skalka u Kyjov in Slovakia, and in the category of up to 50 hectares this year theVican family winery from Mušlov u Mikulova became the champion this year and the best sparkling wine producer of the whole league is Bohemia Sekt.

In the main part of the most prestigious international wine competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, dedicated to redm and white wines, Moravian white wines received the most awards of all the wine regions at the competition.

Znovín Znojmo shone with its Riesling 2000, a selection of berries from the famous Šobes vineyard, which won theSouth Africa at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards for the best foreign wine (JETCRAFT TOP INTERNATIONAL ENTRY TROPHY WINNER).

The first place in the announced TOP 10 ranking at the Chardonnay du Monde competition was taken by the 2016 Chardonnay, sweet, Nivy wine tract, Krumvíř municipality from the Josef Valihrach family winery. In the TOP 10 ranking was also Chardonnay Reserva Barrique 2019 from B\V Vinařství z Moravských Ratíškovice.

At the only international wine competition held in neighbouring Poland, the Cool Climate Wine Awards, Moravian wines scored not only the absolutePinot Gris 2018, a selection of onions from the ANNOVINO winery in Lednice, as well as a wine with 2. Pálava 2020, the straw wine from Réva Rakvice winery.
