100 best Moravian and Czech wines for 2023

The Wine Salon of the Czech Republic presents the 100 best Moravian and Czech wines for 2023. Of the record 2,643 wines entered in this year's edition of the highest and the largest wine competition in the Czech Republic, the expert jury was convinced of its uniqueness. Throughout this year, they will be presented in the eponymous tasting exhibition in the historic cellar of Valtice Castle.

And there was no easy way there. It led through three rounds of evaluation for each of the top 100 wines, from individual wine sub-regions to two national rounds. Each of the wines was thus judged by three expert panels of trained tasters who had to agree that the wines were of exceptional quality. This and the more than 20 years of tradition, the steadily increasing number of wines entered, the unique evaluation system and the professional chemical analysisand chemical analysis of the evaluated wines guarantee complete objectivity of the assessment and make the Salon of Wines - National Wine Competition the most prestigious wine competition in the Czech Republic.

A record 2,643 wines entered

"The Salon of Wines is unique in particular because it features first-class wines from all four Moravian wine-growing regions.and also from the Bohemia wine region, which this year was produced by a record 61 winemakers and wine companies in a wide range of 22 varieties. In one place you can get to know wines, and therefore wine styles, from all over our country," commented Ing. Dagmar Fialová, marketing director of the National Wine Centre, which organizes the competition and also manages the tasting exhibition, and added: "this year's selected hundred came from a record number of more than 2,600 entries, so we can say that theThe wines awarded with the title Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic are of exceptional quality."

Expert tasters from the ranks of winemakers, sommeliers, oenologists and other wine professionals also decided on the winners of each category:

Champion of the competition and winner of category A (dry and semi-dry white wines up to 12 g/l of total sugar).

The award for the best wine collection went to ZNOVÍN ZNOJMO, a.s.

The collection of 100 wines with the gold medal of the Wine Salon 2023 includes 61 winemakers and wine companies, which is also a new record. Znovín Znojmo has the largest representation (5 wines) followed by MIKROSVÍ wineriesN MIKULOV, Zámecké vinařství Bzenec, Kněží hora and Štěpán Maňák (4 wines). The largest number of the 22 varieties is represented by Riesling (18), Sauvignon and Pinot Gris (8) and Veltliner and Chardonnay (7).

This year's 23rd. The 23rd edition of the competition was held in the usual three-round format, with the commissioners judging the wines in the first phase in eachMoravian wine sub-regions (Znojemská, Mikulovská, Velkopavlovická, Slovácká) and in the Bohemia wine region. Two national rounds of evaluation follow, which will determine the composition of the Wine Salon for the following year, the Champion and the category winners.

The competition itself is followed from February by a year-long tasting exhibition of the best 100 wines in the historic cellar of the Valtice Chateau. Here it is possible to taste the best wines of the year through several types of tasting programmes, including 'free tasting', sommelier-led programmes and individual tasting from a presentation machine. This year's opening to the public is scheduled for Friday 3 February.

In addition to the 100 best wines, awarded according to the Gold Medal of the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic 2023, the committee also awarded silver medals (for wines that advanced to the second round of evaluation and received a minimum of 84 points). The total number of medals awarded is limited to a maximum of 30% of the number of wines entered in the first round.

The patronage of the Salon of Wines - National Wine Competition 2023 was taken over by the President of the Czech Republic Ing. Miloš Zeman, the Governor of the South Moravian Region Mgr. Jan Grolich and Minister of Agriculture Zdeněk Nekula.
