About the winery

We would like to introduce our family winery founded in 2012. We had been making wine for many years before that, but it was primarily a hobby for us. However, the volume of wine produced has increased every year, along with the quality. We produce our wines using the controlled fermentation method. These wines are then characterised by a pure taste and aroma with a more subtle and distinctive varietal character. After only a few years we have already won nice awards as varietal winners or gold medals at local shows.

From Prague and Brno From Prague go via Jihlava to Znojmo, from Brno to Znojmo directly. In Znojmo, head towards Vienna and after crossing the only bridge over the river Dyje (still in Znojmo) take the first right turn (direction Hnanice, Šatov, Retz). Continue along the main road towards Hnanice and after 8 km after Havraník turn left towards Šatov.

We would like to introduce you to our family winery. Our family cellar is located in the wine-growing village of Šatov - Znojmo subregion.

My love not only for wine tasting, sommeliering, but also for the technology of production started with me while studying in England, where I studied in Manchester in Business Finance and Marketing at the University of Bolton. This meant that I was able to study at university, but for financial reasons and full time employment, the only possible job that could be done in the evenings and weekends was restaurant work. It was after a time working my way up to the most prestigious Italian and French restaurants around Manchester that my passion for wine began. By offering really high quality and expensive world wines, I had to go through sommelier training and pass the appropriate tests including 'blind tasting'. After returning to the Czech Republic, I took sommelier courses, which ended with exams under the guidance of Mr. Kopeček and Mr. Nazarčuk at the Wine Academy in Valtice.

Wine production began, as it usually does, in relatively small quantities, which were sufficient for our guests staying in the guesthouse. However, the volume of wine produced increased every year, along with the quality. The wines are produced using the method of controlled fermentation, a technological procedure for producing aromatic and harmonious wines. These wines are then characterised by a pure taste and aroma with a more subtle and distinctive varietal character. After just a few years, we have already won some nice awards as varietal winners or gold medals every year at local wine shows. So we are trying to keep this trend going. Our guests can enjoy the wines and enjoy the atmosphere of a family run, non-commercial winery.

In 2018, we started digging a new cellar. By inviting a psychic with virgula, who revealed that there was an old stone cellar on the property that no one knew about for 4 generations, we decided to find it and connect it to the old cellar. After long and hard work we can now offer you a tasting in the cellar, which we completed in spring 2019. This cellar has a capacity of up to 40 people, is accessible from the parking lot in our closed area and is ideal for wine tasting and for larger groups with live music (dulcimer, accordion player, ...).

Patron of wines closely linked to our name
The surname Lorenc comes from the Latin name Laurentius (i.e. Laurence or Laurent). Winemakers have always venerated saints as their patron saints. In the Czech and Moravian regions, for example, St. Urban or St. Lawrence were and are venerated. Saint Laurent (Laurence) is invoked for the harvest of grapes. The saint is often depicted as a young deacon with a grate and a book, often also with a bag of money or bread. Thanks to our surname, we proudly named our winery Laurent Šatov.

Specialties in the menu

Production is carried out by a combination of traditional and modern methods, which are allowed by the technology of small wineries. The white wines are produced using controlled fermentation in glass, plastic and stainless steel tanks. For red wines, malolactic fermentation takes place and the wines are aged for at least a year. Currently, the wines are declared as earthy, but the grapes meet the conditions of the appellations. All our wines come from the Znojmo wine region. The grapes are hand-picked within a distance of about 15km from Šatov.

Additional offer

In the stylish wine cellar by the tasting barrels you can taste from white to rosé and red wines, dry and sweet, young and vintage. You can evaluate and compare wines, play professional tasters and taste the wines you like.

Immediately following the tasting is the second part of the evening, the so-called unguided tasting, which can even lead to the establishment of "tasters", you can have a drink and all this in a cool, quiet and cozy environment.

Live music can be arranged for the right atmosphere, either a dulcimer band (on the terrace in the summer months) or professional musicians playing harmonica, guitar and keyboards of different genres and as desired.
