About the winery

We are a small family-run winery in Moravská Nová Ves, the cultural and wine centre of the Podluží ethnographic region in the south-eastern tip of Moravia between the Morava and Dyje rivers. This warmest region of our country has the best conditions for growing the best quality grapes for the production of the best Moravian wines. Our wines are produced in the traditional way with only the necessary interventions of the winemaker, with minimal sulphur content and without the use of artificial substances and special yeasts, so that the natural character and unique terroir of our wines stand out.

The family winery Vaňkovi manages about a quarter of a hectare of vineyards with a varied composition of varieties. They regularly produce about 1000 litres of wine exclusively from their own grapes. This annual volume is shared with you because part of the wine is bottled and offered for tasting and sale in the family wine cellar (number 4) during wine events held in Moravská Nová Ves. Most of the white wines on offer contain a greater or lesser amount of residual sugar ... because the owners like it that way and the reduced harvest of grapes with high sugar content predisposes to it. With the right balance of residual sugar, tartaric acid and alcohol, such wines can then age very well in the bottle. In contrast, red wines are exclusively dry, with an emphasis on preserving the local character of the traditional varieties.
