Moravian and Czech wines were not lost in the third part of the prestigious international wine competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, this time dedicated to sparkling wines. In Naples, Italy, in the competition of almost a thousand sparkling wines from 25 countries, they won 8 medals. Participation in the competitions is financially supported by the Wine Fund and organised by the National Wine Centre.

The 50-member jury awarded 2 gold and 6 silver medals to sparkling wines from the Czech Republic. Both gold medals for sparkling wines went to the winery Bohemia Sekt, which also added two silvers and one more for its brand Chateau Bzenec. One silver medal each went to the Spielberg winery, Vinné sklepy Skalák and Château Valtice - Vinné sklepy Valtice.

2 gold and 6 silver medals

"Sects have always impressed with their refinement, but in recent years they have increasingly become popular as wines for everyday moments of joy and spending time with loved ones. With this, their supply is also growing hand in hand and more and more of our winemakers are thriving with exceptional quality. I am delighted that they are increasingly making a name for themselves on the international stage, as this is one of the nextproof that our winery is going the right way - the way of quality and respect for the customer's wishes," said Ing. Dagmar Fialová, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre.

Since last year, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) has been divided into 4 parts (so-called sessions). The first part belonged to rosé wines, it took place in March and our wines won 1 grand gold, 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Then came the main session, dedicated to red and white wines, from which we brought back 42 medals. (2 large gold, 18 gold and 22 silver) and this year will be closed by sweet and fortified wines.

CMB was first held in 1994. In the early years the judging took place in Brussels, but in 2006 the venue began to travel between different wine regions. It has taken place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Jesolo (Italy), Guimares (Portugal), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Bratislava (Slovakia), Aiglé (Switzerland) and others. In 2020, the competition will be hosted for the first time in Brno, Moravia. The Czech Republic has participated in the competition since the very beginning.
