Three champions and 44 medals from Slovakia for our winemakers

The champion of the other white wines (except dry wines, which have their own category) was the Műller Thurgau berry selection 2022 from Baloun winery from Velke Pavlovice, which added another 2 big gold and 4 gold medals and thus became the most successful representative from the Czech Republic at the competition. "I consider this Müller a world rarity. It gained its sugariness at the time of the classic harvest and not by drying out. It contains more than 11% alcohol and more than 80 g of sugar. It has a very delicate, almost musky aroma, a lighter colour and a clean aromatic taste with a slight acidity. Its overall expression is superior to other varieties in its category," said Radomil Baloun, the owner of the winery, who also sat on one of the judging panels.

3 champions, 4 major gold medals and 40 gold medals

The champion of sparkling wines and the gold medal is Crémant Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier extra brut from Vinselekt Michlovský winery . "The sparkling wine was prepared using the Méthode Traditionnelle technology, i.e. fermentation in the bottle and subsequent maturation for a minimum of 36 months. The wine is characterised by a fresh fruity bouquet with pleasant autolysed notes, which The taste is complemented by red garden fruit with a fine lingering pearl,' said Doc. Ing. Miloš Michlovský, DrSc., who also took part in the evaluation this year. The winery also won this award last year for its Crémagne Blanc de Blanc wine.

The award for the champion of red wines and the gold medal was also awarded to Merlot Moravian Land Wine 2020 from the winery Josef Valihrach. "Muvina is one of the longest-running competitions under the permanent patronage of the OIV and this year was the 28th edition. Every success here is therefore very much appreciated. Over the years, we have fortunately had a fairly traditional success here and this year all the wines were excellent. In addition to the red wine champion, we also got second place in the sparkling wine category, which we are perhaps even happier about. After a long time, we were also lucky enough to judge here with our son and it was again a very rewarding experience. Whether it was the selection of samples or the composition of the international jury," said Josef Valihrach.

In a competition of 418 wines from 10 countries, Moravian and Czech winemakers recorded a total of 4 grand gold medals and 40 gold medals. The Muvina Prešov competition is held under the auspices of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wineheadquartered in Paris), where there is a 30% limit on the number of medals awarded, otherwise the number of gold medals for the Czech Republic would be even 16 higher.

The expert jury of 30 members gave out a total of 13 large gold medals, 117 gold medals and 7 Champion titles. Professionals from the Czech Republic also regularly sit on the juries at this competition. This year they were Zbyněk Kopeček, Hana Štěpánová and Marta Vítková. It is organized by the Museum of Wine in Prešov.
