Twenty medals for our vintners from London

Moravian and Bohemian wines received two silver and 18 bronze medals along with 29 commendations from one of the most prestigious worldwide competitions - Decanter World Wine Awards - which took place in London. The specialised juries recognised the quality of our wines from amongst a record entry of over 16 000 wines. The joint presentation of Moravian and Bohemian wines was organised by the National Wine Centre with the financial support of the Wine Fund.

One of the silver medals made its way to Miloš Michlovský for his Aurelius 2012 special selection of botrytised berries with the second going to the Vinařství Reisten winery for their Riesling Classic 2013 late harvest. The greatest number of awards were collected by the Bohemia Sekt group of companies, which took home two bronze medals and two commendations, followed by the Sonberk winery, which received one bronze medal along with three commendations.

“A comparison with the many thousands of samples coming from among the world‘s topmost wines really does show the quality and calibre of any given wine. The recurrence of such excellent results among so many other great entries just goes to confirm the fact that our wines really do have a world-class stature and definitely do not fall short even in the compamy of those from France, Italy, Spain or from the New World. And not only that. The world‘s juries are ever more inclined to recognise the individuality of our wines which, thanks to the geographical location of the Czech Republic and the unique approach of our winemakers towards their wines, always arouse plenty of interest,“ commented Pavel Krška, director of the National Wine Centre.

Receiving a Decanter World Wine Award serves not only to assist sales for our successful winemakers both at home and abroad, it also sends a signal to the rest of our vintners that they should not be bashful in presenting themselves more at international competitions and thus aiding the further strengthening of awareness of the high quality level of our winemaking.
