Oenoforum Has Ten Winners from the Czech Republic

After a two-day wine evaluation in the headquarters of the Valtice Centre of Excellence, the organizers of the largest international wine competition in the Czech Republic - Oenoforum - announced its Champions for white, red and young wines and cuvées. In 2020 the two main Champions are local and the other two are from abroad. Oenoforum is organized by the Wine Producers Association of the Czech Republic as the largest single international wine competition in the Czech Republic under the auspices of the International Organization for Wine and Viticulture (OIV).

The title of Champion of White Wines was awarded to Rhine Riesling, the late 2018 harvest of the family winery of Jindřich Kadrnka from Březí, and the title of Champion of Young Wines, i.e. 2019 wines, was awarded to Sylvan Green, selection of 2019 grapes of winery of Bc. Pavla Tréšková - ENTRÉE viticulture, which is a new entrant in the market. The best red wine in the competition was Hron, selection of 2018 grapes from the Slovak winery VÍNO MRVA & STANKO, a.s. and the last title of Champion - best cuvée was awarded to the Moldovan cuvée Aurore Syrah - Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 of FAUTOR winery. The award for the best collection was awarded to VINS winery, Vinosady from Slovakia.

Our winemakers are winners in 8 categories:

  • In the category of young dry wines, Botur Wine with Riesling, the late harvest of 2019.
  • The Volařík winery won with Riesling, late 2018 harvest, in the category of white dry wines.
  • In the category of white semi-dry wines, the Volařík winery won with Riesling, a selection of 2018 grapes.
  • In the category of rosé wines, Víno Botur winery with Cabernet Sauvignon rosé, a selection of 2017 grapes, became a winner.
  • In the category of sweet sparkling wines, Sonberk winery won with Pálava, 2018 straw wine.
  • In the category of dry white cuvée, Thaya winery won with cuvée, the 2018 Moravian regional wine.
  • In the category of sparkling wines, BOHEMIA SEKT defended its victory with the quality sparkling wine Chardonnay Brut, Prestige.
  • Awards of Ing. Jindřich Ševčík, CSc. for the best Sauvinon blanc was won by the Volařík winery for Sauvignon, late harvest 2019.

 

About the competition

Oenoforum - Czech International Wine Competition compares wines from different parts of Europe and the world, which are characterized by different climatic and soil conditions, as well as wines produced by various, often diametrically different, technologies. Emphasis is traditionally placed mainly on wines of the Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties which have a special category and award in the competition.


The organizer of the competition is the Wine Producers Association of the Czech Republic. The competition is supported by the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic, the National Wine Centre and other organizations. The competition was sponsored by the Governor of the South Moravian Region JUDr. Bohumil Šimek. The general partner of the event is the company Vinařský ráj.
