About winemaker

VINIUM a. s. Velké Pavlovice is currently one of the largest producers of still wines in the Czech Republic. The history of the company dates back to 1936, when two hundred farmers founded the VINOPA wine cooperative in Velké Pavlovice. After the era of the national enterprise, VINIUM became a joint stock company in the coupon privatization. In 2004, the shareholders completed a major investment in high-technology. The company thus acquired the most modern vine wine production facilities in the country. The new owner of the company in 2007 became České vinařské závody a. s. from the Prosperita holding a. s. group. The main suppliers of grapes are AGRO Vnorovy, BJ VITIS Brno and ZEMAS Čejč. VINIUM a. s. focuses on a wide range of varieties. White wines are processed by direct pressing and controlled fermentation. Grapes of blue varieties are processed both by the traditional method and by fermentation in vinifiers or by the unique modern thermo-flash technology. The wines are aged in stainless steel, with 100,000 litres of red wine aged in wooden barrels. The cellar master for white wines is Ján Gajda, for red wines Peter Mislovič. VINIUM a.s. produces exclusive collections of premium wines and selected quality wines for gastronomy, and supplies wines of all categories to chains. About half of the production comes from imports. The production portfolio is divided into two main lines - Gastro and Retail, each with three quality levels. The winery also has ice and straw wine, Cosmos and Breganze gift packs and vintage wines. In 2011, the company built a new representative cellar space, which is used for corporate social events and tastings, but is also rented out for other occasions. A new wine cellar is in the pipeline in these premises.

Basic characteristics of wine

It is said that Pinot Noir came to us in the 14th century during the reign of Charles IV. However, the authenticity of this information has never been proven. In our country, it is grown in all wine-growing subregions, the most widespread is in the Velkopavlovice and Mikulov regions. Pinot Noir from the vicinity of Mělník, Litoměřice, in Moravia from the Bzenecko and Mutěnice regions are excellent.
