Valtice Wine Educational Trail

The thematic educational trail in Valtice and its surroundings represents the second important centre of the Mikulov wine sub-region. The five-kilometre route of the nature trail can be walked or cycled. The route is marked and equipped with 19 trilingual information panels.

Characteristics of the trail

Valtice is the second wine centre of the Mikulov wine sub-region. Since 1873 it has been the seat of a secondary wine school, which is the oldest not only in the Czech Republic but also in Lower Austria, which Valtice was a part of before 1920.

For several years, the Wine Academy has been operating here, which through courses and its own publishing activities takes care of the education and training of sommeliers - experts in dining and serving wine. In the cellars of the Baroque chateau there is the National Wine Salon, where you can see and taste an extensive collection of the best Czech and Moravian wines.

The route of the educational trail starts in the immediate vicinity of the castle right on Valtice Square.

The route of the educational trail starts in the immediate vicinity of the castle right on Valtice Square. The route can be studied in advance on the map at the starting point. From there, the route leads through the chateau grounds to the extensive Valtice vineyards. Here are the essentials about the year-round work in the vineyards. At the highest point of the educational trail, on the Reistna hill above Valtice, you can see the whole Lednice-Valtice area from the romantic colonnade, included for its uniqueness in the UNESCO World Heritage List. From there, the journey continues through the vineyards with a few more stops to the building of the Secondary Wine School and then back to the historic part of the town. Here you can end your walk in one of the many wine cellars and practically verify the truth of the information you have received.
