Silver, gold, as well as diamond for Moravian winemakers and their wines in the Principality of Monaco

These are the official results from the sixth edition of the international wine contest Femmes et Vins du Monde (Women and Wine of the World), which took place on 26th and 27th April 2012 in the conference hall of the premises of the Novotel Hotel on Boulevard Princesse Charlotte in Monte-Carlo. And our vintners can really rejoice!

As the title of this prestigious competition implies, the members of the international jury are women only and their committees are divided into five diverse groupings: Oenology (always the committee president), Production, PR/Distribution, Formation/Media/Sommelerie and the so-called Découverte Grand Public Oenophile, in other words “a woman wine aficionada”. Marking is by the 100-point system according to the rules of the O.I.V. whereby only 30% of the total of samples entered can receive a medal.

55 tasters of 28 nationalities (Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Columbia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Moldova, Monaco, Mozambique, Poland, Portugal, Republic of South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, Uruguay) evaluated over 300 samples and awarded a total of 116 diplomas, of which 3 diamond, 27 gold and 86 silver. The competition was attended by wines emanating from 21 countries (Australia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Chile, China, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, The Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and USA), 35% of which came from France and 65% from abroad.
Concurrently with the above-mentioned appraisal of wines, a Grand Concours de Packaging competition for the best “emballage” or label again took place, which is open only for wines that had already received awards in the Femmes et Vins du Monde competition. Having seen the bottles from the participating wineries of the Czech Republic on the tables, I was able to ascertain that medals (Nova stars) had been awarded to the Baloun, Znovín and U kapličky wines, but had no idea of the colours, as it were...

The official results were announced after my return from Monte-Carlo on the
http://www.femmesetvinsdumonde.com/introduction/index.html portal, confirming my suspicions and revealing the colour of the medals: the Baloun winery from Velké Pavlovice retained his gold from Monte-Carlo (Sauvignon Blanc 2011) and what is more they took yet another three silver Novas for their Sylvaner, Chardonnay and Welschriesling, all vintage 2011. The Znovín Znojmo winery which is headquartered in Šatov received silver medals for their Traminer special selection of berries 2011 and Moravian Muscat special selection of grapes 2011, while wines from U kapličky of Zaječí acquired, apart from two silver medals for Pálava 2011 and Sauvignon Blanc 2011, an even greater award - a diamond diploma Nova de Diamant or great gold medal for their Víno Dalibor Moravian Muscat 2011, which is for our winemaking in such an international tournament, a truly grand tribute.
