The Gurdau winery is located in the wine-growing village of Kurdějov near Hustopece. The winery was founded in 2012 by Jaromír Gala and Zdeněk Horta, when they planted 7 hectares of vineyards in the village. They were the first to restore the local winemaking tradition, which had been interrupted for decades. They chose the name of the winery after the original German name of the village - Gurdau.
The philosophy of the winery - minimalism, humility and respect - all belong to the Gurdau brand. The winery's flagship grape is the pure, mineral Riesling, which is unique due to the excellent local conditions. The Riesling variety is planted in 6 clones from Wachau, Alsace, Rheingau and the Palatinate, and its quality today is truly world-class.
This variety is used to produce base wines and wines aged in oak barrels, sparkling wines, but also sweet wines. In addition to Rieslings, the winery also produces the very successful varieties Veltliner Green and Pinot Noir. The wines are produced gently, with respect for nature and the terroir that Kurdějov offers.
The small wine-growing village of Kurdějov lies in a deep valley surrounded by the foothills of the Žďánický Hills. It has a unique closed microclimate, highly sloping tracks and great exposure. All of the winery's tracks are characterised by calcareous sandstone overlain by calcareous loess. Currently, the winery manages 8 hectares of vineyards on the Lipiny, Vinohrádky and Stará hora vineyards. In the spring of 2021, the winery planted the very first blue varieties in the winery on the Stará hora line. Specifically, the varieties Frankovka, Merlot and Dornfelder will join forces in the future in the upcoming red cuvée.
