The most successful Moravian winery at the competition was B\V winery from Moravian Rat&iacute;&scaron;kovice, which with 20 gold and 8 silver became this year's sponsor of our presentation in Germany. Their Chardonnay RESERVA 2018 was named the best wine from the Czech Republic and the winery earned the overall title of "Best Producer in the Czech Republic".

"The award-winning Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in our 45-year-old vineyards in Rat&iacute;&scaron;kovice. It is yellowish in colour, with a delicate fruity aroma of yellow peaches, accompanied by tropical notes. The palate is full, harmonious, with fresh acidity, long and complex, as the wine was trained for 12 months on fine yeast lees in a large French oak barrel. It is an elegant big wine suitable for bottle ageing," Jiř&iacute; Toman, oenologist and cellar master of B\V winery, presents the best wine from the Czech Republic at the competition. This Chardonnay follows its previous success, where this year it already won one of the main prizes at the Le Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg competition in France, where it was named the best dry wine of the competition.
The Hab&aacute;nsk&eacute; sklepy and Vinofol wineries were also successful, winning 2 gold medals and one silver medal. Gold medals were also awarded to wines from the wineries Vinice Hnanice and V&iacute;no Mikulov. Silver medals were also awarded to Bohemia Sekt and V&iacute;no Masař&iacute;k.
Over 140 international wine experts gathered in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, where the 33. MUNDUS VINI competition tasted and evaluated more than 4 thousand wines from 36 wine-growing countries of the world. A total of 1,676 wines were awarded. The gold medal in this worldwide prestigious competition goes to the wine that achieves at least 90 out of 100 points.

Forty medals for Moravian wines from the MUNDUS VINI competition

The most successful winery was Volař&iacute;k from Mikulov, which won one gold and two silver medals. The remaining gold medals were shared by the Sonberk and Vinofol wineries.

"It was in the sweet wine category where we started to let the world know about the quality of our wines in the modern history of our winery.and I am therefore glad that nothing has changed even today, when no one doubts our world-class quality across categories. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, with its huge number of participating wines and the division into specialised sections, gives the opportunity for the most professional comparison with the world and it is great news that this year's edition is also closed by our winemakers with medal successes in all four parts of the competition," said Ing. Dagmar Fialov&aacute;, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre.
Since last year, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) has been divided into 4 parts (so-called sessions). The final part evaluated sweet and fortified wines in Brussels, Belgium. The first part belonging to ros&eacute; wines took place in March and earned our wines 1 grand gold, 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Then came the main and most charged part, dedicated to red and white wines.from which our winemakers brought back 42 medals (2 large gold, 18 gold and 22 silver). The penultimate part was dedicated to sparkling wines, where our wines won 2 gold and 6 silver medals.
CMB was first held in 1994. In the first years the evaluation took place in Brussels, in 2006 the venue started to be travelling between different wine regions. It took place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Jesolo (Italy), Guimares (Portugal), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Bratislava (Slovakia), Aigl&eacute; (Switzerland) and others. In 2020, the competition will be hosted for the first time in Brno, Moravia. The Czech Republic has participated in the competition since the very beginning.

Sweet Moravian wines scored points at the end of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

The largest number of nominated wineries was in the medium-sized category (11), followed by small wineries (10) and the list of candidates for the title is rounded off by four large wineries.
"We have 25 wineries that have entered and met the conditions of the competition. This is the same number of wineries as last year, and I am pleased that every year there are a number of newch that have worked hard over the past few years to decide that now is the time to go to market. And I mean that skin literally. Because it's not enough for us just to have a superior result, a perfectly prepared wine. This is what the jury and the committee consider to be the minimum. To succeed, however, it is necessary to let the evaluators into the operation and let them dismantle every last screw in the vineyard, in the cellar and in the presentation," said the president of the Union of Winegrowers of the Czech Republic PhDr. Martin Chlad and added. Pride, courage, self-confidence without false modesty are the qualities that our winery needs to succeed and play a significant role with customers and on the wine map of Europe."

The main idea of the competition remains the same and only wineries that contribute to the to the whole industry and moves Moravian and Czech winemaking forward, not only in the long term, but also significantly to the year. The evaluators will also take into account the winery's ability to cope with the current social and economic situation.
"The evaluation of the Winery of the Year 2023 and Art of Wine competition itself is divided into three steps, just like last year. Everything will start with the "Junior Jury", followed by the "Senior Jury" and everything will be completed by the "Expert Commission". This year, the judging also includes a blind tasting of 3 wines from each winery entered.which will take place under the guidance of the national sommelier Kl&aacute;ra Koll&aacute;rov&aacute; and selected experts," said Ing. Dagmar Fialov&aacute;, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre in Valtice.
<h3>The evaluation process</h3>
"The'Junior Jury', composed of four students and PhD students from the Mendel University in Brno, Faculty of Horticulture based in Lednice, will complete the technical parameters and objective criteria, and will make a video recording of three areas (cellar management, vineyard, business and marketing). This will ensure, above all, that the 'Senior Jury' has transparent, objective and, above all, fully comparable input for each winery assessed in the next step of the evaluation.
"The senior jury, made up of nine knowledgeable experts (three each from viticulture, cellar management and marketing and trade), will, in the secondIn the second step of the evaluation, the 'Junior Jury' also completes an evaluation form for their area, based on the input from the 'Junior Jury' and their own investigation. The sum of the scores from both steps and the evaluation forms is then used to determine the ranking, thus narrowing the number of nominees down to the final nine - 3 small wineries, 3 medium and 3 large wineries.
An"expert panel " will then assess the wineries directly in the final third stepthe extent to which the finalists meet the established competition criteria, and finally decide on the winners.
The whole evaluation process will be completed on 1 January 2011. February, when the winners in the three competition categories and the absolute winner of the Winery of the Year 2023 and the Art of Wine will be announced at the Brno Observatory and Planetarium. Awards will also be given - Lomax Enologist of the Year, Achievement of the Year, Prof. Vil&eacute;m Kraus, CSc. The gala evening will be traditionally hosted by Mr. Marek Eben.
The competition is announced and the title "Winery of the Year" is awarded by the Union of Winegrowers of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the National Wine Centre, with significant support from the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic and the South Moravian Region. The event is organized under the auspices of the Governor Mgr. The general and titular partner is the new e-shop not only with wine <a href="https://www.umenivina.cz/?utm_source=vinarstviroku&amp;utm_medium=mix">Uměn&iacute; v&iacute;na</a>. The competition is also supported by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and the Faculty of Horticulture of Mendel University in Brno.

Winner of Winery of the Year 2023 and Art of Wine will again come from 25 nominated wineries

The most successful representative of Moravian wineries at the competition was the winery of Karla Novotn&aacute;from Milotice u Kyjov, which can be proud of one of the big gold medals and added one more silver. The highest number of precious metals was recorded by the Žůrek winery with 3 gold and one silver medal. The remaining large gold medals were shared by the wineries &Scaron;těp&aacute;n Maň&aacute;k and Vinofol, which also won a second silver medal.
"The final week of my July this year traditionally belonged to the Michelangelo Awards in South Africa just outside Cape Town in the outskirts of Stellenbosch. The judging took place at the Lourensford winery where a total of 1555 samples of wines and also spirits were prepared for the judges. The composition of the international judges was very diverse, allowing each panel to be made up of a variety of peoplesKarel Novotn&yacute; from the winery of the same name, who took part in the evaluation for the Czech Republic, said: "I personally think that the Czech Republic can boldly participate in such challenges as the competition on the other side of the globe. Our wines are moving forward and there is certainly no reason to fear failure. It was an honour to participate in the Michelangelo Awards and I hope to visit South Africa again."
The Michelangelo International Wine &amp; Spirits Awards was established in 1997 to offer South African producers the opportunity to have their wines judged by a highly experienced and respected panel of experts from around the world. Since 2003, the competition has become international in terms of the wines involved, opening up to wines from all over the world and becoming the largest wine event in Africa. All the samples entered are judged blind by panels of five according to the internationally recognised 100-point OIV rating system.

Moravian wines score points in South Africa 

This year's Champion, Ryzlink vla&scaron;sk&yacute; 2021, late harvest of Velkopavlovice winemaker Kamil Proke&scaron;, was also the winner of the dry category.white wines and was awarded a special prize in the form of a Seguin Moreau barrel from the competition partner the town of Hustopeče. Kamil Proke&scaron; also took the win for the best rated wine in the sweet wine category.n, dry red wines and quality sparkling wines and crowned his triumph with the award for the best collection of the competition. Kamil Proke&scaron; thus defended last year's victory, when he won the title of Champion in the category of red dry wines. The quality of the winning winery is only underlined by the fact that it defended the title of Champion of the Velkopavlovice wine subregion after last year's success with red wine.

"The wine has a noble aroma that combines notes of citrus and ripe pears with a light vanilla hint. The flavour is juicy, pleasantly fruity, creamy and mineral with a long metallic-salty finish," said the award-winning winemaker Kamil Proke&scaron;, adding: "I accept every such success with great humility and see it as an appreciation of our daily work both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The Riesling variety is a matter of my heart and I am glad that we are able to produce high quality and distinctive wines with an unmistakable character from this variety in South Moravia. Wine, which I perceive as a perfect product of the surrounding nature, is for me a love, a way of life and a constant challenge to new knowledge, study and humility."

A total of 797 wines were entered into the competition, of which 51 won major gold medals and 228 gold medals. The result was decided by 18 committees composed of wine experts who evaluated the wines on 28-30 August at the headquarters of the National Wine Centre - Centre of Excellence in Valtice. 755 wines advanced to the national round of the Wine Salon - National Wine Competition. The nominated wines, together with those from the Znojemsk&aacute;, Mikulovsk&aacute; and Slov&aacute;ck&eacute; wine sub-regions, representing the Morava wine region, and the wines nominated byfrom the Bohemia wine region will compete for advancement to the finals and the title of Absolute Champion and a place in the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic, a year-round wine tasting exhibition in Valtice. The main partners of the competition are BS Wine Supplies and Ford.

The public has the opportunity to taste the wines entered in the nomination round of the National Wine Competition of the Velkopavlovice wine sub-region on Saturday 7. October from 12 to 8 pm in the Wine Club and the Great Hall of the Hotel Amande in Hustopeče, accompanied by dulcimer music.

TheVelkopavlovice wine-growing sub-region is a landscape with a rugged topography, which rises north of Velk&eacute; B&iacute;lovice into the hills of the Hustopečsk&aacute; hilly plateau and then gently descends in fertile plains to Brno. It is one of the sunniest and warmest places in the Czech Republic and is therefore famous for its exceptional red wines, especially Svatovavřinec and Frankovka. In the northern part, white varieties also thrive - Veltl&iacute;nsk&yacute; zelen&yacute;Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Tramin Red, Palava and Muscat of Moravia.

National wine competition in Velkopavlovice dominated winery of Kamil Prokes

Znojemsko and Sauvignons have always belonged together and the uniqueness of this variety of wine in the specific climatic and soil conditions of Znojemsko was confirmed by this year's Champion. Sauvignon blanc KLASIK 2022, a Moravian land wine from the Halkoci winery, located in &Scaron;atov near Znojmo, became theThe winner of the category of dry white wines and earned a special prize in the form of a Seguin Moreau barrel. The winner is presented by the partners, the town of Doln&iacute; Kounice and the Brotherhood of Winemakers and Diggers 1737.
"This is the very first grape that I have processed in the new winery premises. The plan was to harvest about 5 days earlier, but we had complications with the renovation and installation of technology. At 3am we finished the last things we needed and at 7am we went into the vineyard. Not only after this beautiful success, I dare say that the grapes benefited from the longer time in the vineyard. I managed to get a wine with strictly varietal and fruity aromas, the way a Znojmo Sauvignon should be. The enthusiasm continues into the mouth, where we encounter the seductive fullness and tenacity of this wine. This is all thanks to the excellent 2022 vintage, a perfect match for all the wines that honour VOC Znojmo," said Luk&aacute;&scaron; Halkoci, owner of the winery, about the winning wine, adding: "I work very minimally in the cellar, with minimum intervention and for a long time I play with the healthy yeasts of the already fermented wines."

The result was decided by 7 committees of wine experts who evaluated the wines on 24 August at the headquarters of the National Wine Centre - Centre of Excellence in Valtice. 297 wines advanced to the national round of the Wine Salon - National Wine Competition. All the wines from the Znojmo region, which participated in the nomination round of the National Wine Competition of the Znojmo Wine Subregion, will be presented to the interested public on Saturday 2. September at 1 pm in the Cultural House in Doln&iacute; Kounice. The exhibition runs concurrently with the historical Rosa Coeli festivities of Doln&iacute; Kounice.

TheZnojmo wine sub-region owes its full-flavoured and fresh aromatic white wines to the ideal natural and climatic conditions. The cold winds from the nearby highlands, together with the thermoregulatory influence of the rivers, give Znojmo wines their unmistakable spicy flavour. Thanks to the alternation of sunny days and cooler nights, the grapes ripen more slowly, but retain their aromas and achieve high quality. Traditionally, winemakers here have achieved the best results with Gr&uuml;ner Veltliner, Riesling, M&uuml;ller Thurgau and Sauvignon. The reds are particularly popular with St. Laurent and Franconia.

Sauvignon from Halkoci winery is Champion in Znojmo region

The champion was also the winner of the dry white wine category and, in addition to the title, his producer - Vinařstv&iacute; Garčic also received a special prize in the form of a Seguin Moreau barrel, which was donated to the winner by the partner town of Mikulov. Pavlovsk&eacute; Vinařstv&iacute; Garčic can also boast the best wine in the category of dry red winesn for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, a selection of grapes, thus dominating both of the most charged and prestigious categories of the competition.

"The grapes come from the U Bož&iacute;ch muk vineyard. This is one of the best vineyard tracks in Pavlov, mainly due to the higher lime content in the soil. The wines here are highly mineral and salty. The grapes ripen well here even in a bad vintage. We picked the winning Riesling Vla&scaron;sk&yacute; in early November and the grapes at that time were about 25% botrytised, with a sugar content of 23 CNM. You can smell a hint of citrus and raisins in the wine, complemented by a distinct metallic mineral. The taste is strongly mineral and extractive, the wine is salty and juicy on the finish," said Jan Garčic, the owner of the winery.
The fact that the Mikulov region, especially around P&aacute;lava, produces the best "vla&scaron;&aacute;ky" in the Czech Republic was also confirmed by the winery Ing. Miroslav Volař&iacute;k from Mikulov, whose Ryzlink vla&scaron;sk&yacute; 2022, selection from grapes became the best wine in the category of white semi-dry and semi-sweet wines.

A total of 655 wines from 91 winemakers and winemaking companies were entered into the competition, whose main partners are BS Wine Supplies and the Ford automobile company, which took place on 14 and 15 March. On August 14th, traditionally at the headquarters of the National Wine Centre - Centre of Excellence in Valtice, 15 committees composed of wine experts evaluated the wines. Of the wines entered, 50 were awarded large gold medals, 172 gold medals and 2 silver medals. 616 wines from the Mikulov wine sub-region advanced to the national round of the Wine Salon - National Wine Competition. The nominated wines will be nominated together with those from the Slovacka, Velkopavlovice and Znojmo wine sub-regions, representing the Moravia wine region, and the wine Bohemia, will compete for advancement to the finals and for the title of Absolute Champion and a place in the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic, a year-round wine tasting exhibition in Valtice.

Traditionally, all wine lovers and those interested in the National Wine Competition will have the opportunity to taste the wines at one place.all the wines that participated in the first round of the Mikulov wine sub-region from 8. to 10 September at the Mikulov Chateau as part of the P&aacute;lava Wine Festival.

The dominant feature of the Mikulov wine sub-region is the P&aacute;lava mountain range, which rises steeply from the gently undulating landscape of the floodplain forests of the lower Podyj&iacute;. On the slopes of the limestone cliffs there are massive loads of loess, calcareous clays and sands, which give the local wines their unmistakable character. The Mikulov wine sub-region has always been dominated by Riesling, but M&uuml;ller Thurgau, Chardonnay, Veltliner Green and, of course, P&aacute;lava also thrive here. In the Valtice region, Neuburg and Sylv&aacute;nsk&eacute; zelen&eacute; are also added. Of the reds, Svatovavrineck&eacute;, Frankovka, Merlot and Zweigeltrebe have gained popularity here.
