About winemaker

The Velké Pavlovice wine-growing station has continued the tradition of the "Zemské vine nursery" founded in 1901, to whose legacy it proudly claims. The André variety was bred here and work began on the breeding of the Pálava, Aurelius and Agni varieties, which were later completed in Perná. Targeted selection from the best maintenance clones, combined with soil and climatic conditions, the so-called 'terroir', forms the basis for the production of excellent raw material, mostly of the highest quality, for the production of quality wines, which account for more than 90 % of production.

Basic characteristics of wine

The variety was cultivated in Velké Pavlovice in 1960 by Ing. Jaroslav Horák from Frankovka and Saint Laurence. It was named in honour of Ch. K. André, the founder of the Association for Vine and Fruit Breeding in Brno. This is one of the reasons why we can find it especially in the Velkopavlovice subregion, however, interesting André wines are definitely also produced in the Slovácko and Mikulov regions.
