The grandfather of Rostislav Kosek Sr. came to Mikulov in 1945 and farmed the estate with 8 hectares of fields and a hectare of vineyards until 1956 - thus establishing the family wine tradition. The family regained the land in restitution, bought additional land and gradually planted new vineyards since 1994. Rostislav Kosek has been making wine at home for himself since the war and has been a professional winemaker since 1990. Rostislav Kosek Jr. has been involved in home farming since he was a child, and so he started working in the family winery quite naturally. The winery farms seven hectares of mostly young (average age of 14 years) vineyards. It specialises in bottled appellation wines - whites make up a slight majority of the range. The winery aims to maintain a balanced range of wines in a system based on consistent quality. In the vineyards in the traditional Mikulov vineyards of Pod Sv. kopečkem, Valtická, Pod valtickou, Brněnská and Šibeniční vrch, the Koskovs farm in an integrated way with crop reduction and hand harvesting. The wine is produced in the classic cellar under Svatý Kopeček in Mikulov. Individual lots of white wines are aged in stainless steel tanks, red wines in wooden and barrique barrels. The winery relies on a combination of traditional and modern methods of vinification - it does not use controlled fermentation or vinifiers, but ferments with noble yeasts, the wines are aged for more than a year before bottling, and are only lightly filtered. In the centre of Mikulov, the Koskas have a wine yard with a wine bar and an outdoor area with summer seating.
