The Wine in Moderation Association held its annual meeting in Lisbon on July 2nd, bringing together members from across the global wine value chain to collaborate on updating the association’s long-term strategy. The meeting marks a key moment in reinforcing the wine sector’s commitment to its mission: fostering a sustainable culture of wine through moderation and responsibility.
The strategy review comes after five years of significant progress and collective effort, during a period challenged by the global pandemic. Despite these challenges, Wine in Moderation has emerged stronger than ever—welcoming new members and partners from around the world and expanding its reach across the entire wine value chain.
Over the past five years, the association has:
- Established an annual day dedicated to moderate drinking, accompanied by a bold, modern campaign: "The greatest wine, the one you'll remember."
- Launched a digital training platform for professionals, promoting the responsible service of wine.
- Supported the organisation of two international scientific congresses on lifestyle, diet, wine, and health.
- Continued to provide its members, partners, and supporters with practical tools and best practices to integrate moderate and responsible drinking into their daily operations.
The strategic update is expected to be officially launched by the end of 2025 and will serve as a roadmap to guide Wine in Moderation's future activities and outreach.
The Lisbon meeting was graciously hosted by ACIBEV (Associação de Vinhos e Espirituosas de Portugal), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, ACIBEV welcomed delegates to a memorable gala dinner, honouring five decades of commitment to the Portuguese beverage sector.
Sandro Sartor, President of Wine in Moderation said: "This meeting is a milestone for Wine in Moderation. It reflects the strength and unity of our members as we continue working towards a wine culture that is sustainable, responsible, and globally relevant. Our shared achievements over the past five years and since the outset of the movement in 2008, set the foundation for an even more impactful future. We are proud of our growing network and look forward to launching a renewed strategy that reflects our collective ambition."
Executive Director of ACIBEV, Ana Isabel Alves, added: "It was a great honour for ACIBEV to host the Wine in Moderation annual meeting in Lisbon, especially in a year when we celebrate our 50th anniversary. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to promoting responsible and moderate wine consumption as an essential part of a sustainable wine culture. We are proud to support this important dialogue and to help shape the future of our sector together."
