Moravian and Czech wines bring back over 300 medals from Vienna

Moravian and Czech wines had another great success this year at the traditional Austrian AWC Vienna competition, bringing home an impressive 93 gold and 209 silver medals. The participation of our winemakers in the competitions is supported by the Wine Fund and organised by the National Wine Centre.

The most successful winery was Vinselekt Michlovský, which won 10 gold and 8 silver medals and achievedh achieved the highest total number of medals and the most gold medals among our participants. The second place with 7 gold medals and 2 silver medals went to the winery Volařík and with a total of 13 medals (3 gold and 10 silver) the winery Juřeník & Žďárský.

"With more than 11,000 wines evaluated, AWC Vienna is one of the largest in the world and brings The AWC is the world's largest wine competition, with the largest number of wines and wine styles awarded to our region. Our winemakers regularly win a large number of medals here, thus objectively proving their mastery of their craft," commented Ing. Dagmar Fialová, marketing director of the National Wine Centre, which ensures the participation of our wines in competitions, added: "given that the competition is dominated by wines from Central Europe, it is not a big surprise that our wines were among the most successful here again.The most successful wines were our traditional varieties such as Veltliner Green and Riesling, but Müller Thurgau and Frankincense, which are literally perfect for our climate and soil, were not lost either."

In addition to the medals, Moravian and Czech wines in Austria received 47 "Good Quality Awards" ("Seal of Approval") and with a total of 349 awards, they are celebrating the most medal-winning harvest of the season. At the 20th edition of the AWC Vienna, our winemakers stood out against 11,376 wines from 1,514 producers from 42 countries. The judging of the competition will take place at the Wine School in Klosterneuburg and the award ceremony will take place in the Exhibition Palace of the Vienna City Hall on 26 October 2023.
