Moravian Rieslings among the best Rieslings in the world!

The evaluation of the competition is very strict and awards are only given to wines that achieve at least 87 points. 22 Moravian wines met this standard. The most successful was the B\V winery from the South Moravian Ratíškovice with 12 Riesling awards, including two with an exceptional 92 points. The Spielberg winery from Archlebovo also scored one wine for 92 points. Only 180 wines were rated above 90 points. Václav winery and Sonberk winery were also successful.

Only 180 wines were rated above 90 points, of which 4 were Moravian.

"The competition is a great challenge for us every year and this year's results really pleased us. Five of our Rieslings scored above 90 points and two even 92, as well as a Riesling from the Spielberg winery. We consider the overall results to be a confirmation that Moravian Rieslings can compete boldly on a global scale. It is mainly wines from the Rhineland region, where Rieslings are at home, that regularly score here. It is therefore exceptional to be successful in this competition," comments Vlastimil Valenta, Executive Director of the B\V winery.

The Best of Riesling competition is held annually in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, in the Rhineland-Palatinate region, the locality where Riesling varieties originate. This year, 1300 Rieslings were entered from all over the world. The jury judged the wines in eight categories. The winners came mainly from well-known wineries in the Palatinate, Middle Rhine and Mosel regions. Outside Germany, the wineries from Austria, France and the Czech Republic were particularly successful.
