International wine competition Oenoforum 2023 starts tomorrow with a wine conference
Domestic and foreign tasters will gather in the Mikulov Chateau's congress hall on 16 and 17. June to evaluate top wines from all over the world and, above all, to choose the winners of the 17th year of the prestigious Oenoforum - Czech International Wine Competition. The programme will start tomorrow, however, with lectures by leading experts in the wine industry on the topic "Development and prospects of two world grape varieties in two nearby regions".
Oenoforum is a prestigious international competition, which meets the professional world standards with its professionalism and high standards. parameters and brings a unique opportunity to compare a wide range of world wines with Moravian and Czech production. It is the largest international wine competition in the Czech Republic, under the patronage of the OIV - the International Organization for Wine and Viticulture based in Paris.
"This year's edition will be attended by 517 wines, so our long-term ambition to receive the maximum600 samples to allow sufficient room for evaluation and to maintain the emphasis on the quality of the wines entered," said Ing. Martin Půček, executive director of the organizing Union of Winemakers, added: "In addition to our wines, the jury will also evaluate wines from Austria, France, Slovakia, Portugal, Italy, Chile, Bulgaria, Moldova and Spain. This year, the most attention will also be paid to Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, but also to the traditional varieties grown in the Czech Republic, namely Riesling and Pálava."
An integral part of Oenofora is the International Wine Conference, which launches the whole competition. It takes place on Thursday 15 June at 9 a.m., also in the congress hall of the chateau, and will feature lectures based on practical examples and tasting of the wines discussed. The theme of the conference is RYZLINK VLAŠSKÝ & SAUVIGNON BLANC, Quo vadis, Development and perspectives of two world grape varieties in two close regions - Austria and the Czech Republic. The keynote lecture will be given by Austrian expert and sommelier René Kollegger. He will be followed by representatives of domestic wineries - Bořek Svoboda from Mikrosvín Mikulov Winery and Roman Fabig from the winery of the same name. The speakers will compare the current state of the two mentioned varieties within the Austrian Styria region and selected terroirs of Moravia. We will taste different vintages and styles of wine making. The tasting will focus on "single vineyard" wines.
The organizer and host of the competition and conference is the Association of Winemakers of the Czech Republic. The competition is supported by the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic, the National Wine Centre, o.p.s. and other organizations. The competition is under the auspices of the Governor of the South Moravian Region Mgr. Jan Grolich and the Mayor of Mikulov Mgr. The general partner of the event is the company Vinařský ráj.
