The Wine Salon of the Czech Republic opens its doors to the public

At the beginning of February, the gates of the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic open to the public every year, presenting the best of Moravian and Czech winemaking for the current year. A tasting exhibition of the 100 best-rated wines of the highest and largest wine competitionsn in the Czech Republic will be available in the underground of the Valtice Chateau from Friday 3. February throughout this year.

The Wine Salon this year features wines from 61 winemakers and wine companies in a wide range of 22 varieties. There are 81 white wines, 17 red wines and 2 rosés, 73 dry wines, 12 semi-dry wines, 10 semi-sweet wines and 5 sweet wines. There will also be 2 sparkling wines. The individual wine sub-regions will be represented equally according to the area of vineyards (32 wines from Mikulovská, 23 fromVelkopavlovice, 22 from Slovácké, 19 from Znojmo, 3 from Bohemia and one from Moravia but without a defined sub-region).

The wines awarded with the gold medal of the Wine Salon 2023 and presented in the exhibition can be tasted and compared in free or professional sommelier-led tastings. Of course, you can also buy the selected wines in limited quantities. There is also an educational exhibition dedicated to winemaking and a shop selling gift items, wine literature, tasting glasses and sommelier's supplies.

"This year's 23rd edition of the Salon of Wines is a bit of a record-breaker. One hundred selected wines came out of a record number of samples submitted, which numbered more than 2,600. These wines represent at the top level both the individual regions and wine sub-regions of the Czech Republic, as well as the rich variety of grape varieties and diverse wine styles. Visiting the Wine Salon helps to get a nice and comprehensive overview of Moravian and Czech winemaking in one place," said Ing. Dagmar Fialová, marketing director of the National Wine Centre, which manages the tasting exhibition and also organizes the competition, and added: "in addition to the year-round exhibition, the Wine Salon will seasonally present silver medal-winning wines, rosé wines, sparkling wines and other thematically selected collections."

The Salon of Wines is one of the best tourist destinations in the Czech Republic that have a connection with wine and winemaking. It is not for nothing that the Wine Salon has become the absolute Champion of the TOP wine destination competition for 2022. Every year, more than 20 thousand visitors attend one of its tasting programmes.

The Salon of Wines - National Wine Competition of the Czech Republic is the highest and largest wine competition in the Czech Republic. It is organized by the National Wine Centre, o.p.s. The patronage of the Salon of Wines - National Wine Competition 2023 was taken over by the President of the Czech Republic Ing. Miloš Zeman, the Governor of the South Moravian Region Mgr. Jan Grolich and Minister of Agriculture Zdeněk Nekula.
