In early June of this year, Mikulov will become the world capital of Welschriesling. From June 2–5, 2026, the prestigious international competition GROW du Monde International Wine Challenge 2026 will take place here, marking its first-ever visit to South Moravia. Top tasters and experts from across Europe will thus gather in this traditional wine-growing region.

Following successful editions in Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary, a unique opportunity is now coming for Czech winemakers as well—to pit their Welschriesling wines against international competition right on home turf.

The highlight of the entire competition will be a public tasting of the best wines, which will take place on Friday, June 5, in the upper courtyard of Mikulov Castle. Visitors can look forward to the unique atmosphere of the historic setting, meeting winemakers, and the chance to taste top-quality wines from across Europe all in one place. The event will also feature a ceremonial announcement of the results, presenting the overall winners as well as the best wines in each category.

The event will thus offer not only an extraordinary wine experience for the general public but will also significantly contribute to promoting Welschriesling and strengthening the prestige of South Moravia as one of Europe’s key wine regions.
