Cuvée Ostrava is the only international wine competition in the Moravian-Silesian region. The founder and honorary president of the competition organized by the Ostrava Wine Builders Club K.A.H.A.N. was Prof. Vilém Kraus. The competition's oenologist is Prof. Josef Balík and the chairman of the jury is Prof. Fedor Malík. Independently of the expert jury, the competition samples are evaluated by the Public Commission and the FIJEV (International Organization of Journalists and Wine Writers) Commission. Cuvée Ostrava has the difficult task of renaissance of the good name of coupages, assemblages and stamp wines, as well as the return of quality cuvée to the leading positions in the offer of Czech and Moravian winemakers. In the words of the spiritual father of the competition, Prof. Vilém Kraus: "There is no cuvée like cuvée."
